What Goes Up...

There is an estimated 489,418 feet of altitude change on the Pacific Crest Trail, which is over 92 vertical miles.  Imagine a ladder 92 miles tall or 1,359 football fields end to end. Imagine climbing the stairs to the top of the Empire State Building 400 times. That’s 40,800 flights of stairs or 75,888,000 stair steps. Hiking the PCT is the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest 17 times...from sea level. Any way you describe it, it is a lot of uphill and downhill hiking. Above is a graph of the altitude change for the entire trail. For more detail, below is a link to a flash based interactive elevation graph for the Pacific Crest Trail. Detail lovers rejoice! http://bearcant.org/elevation.php
